1796, May or Jul 19 - Deed: William Griffith and Alexander Wells, Adjoining Herman Greathouse

This Indenture Made this nineteenth day of May July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six between William Griffeth and Ann his wife of ohio county and state of virginia ofthe one part and Alexr. Wells Senr. of washington county and state of pennsylvania of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Griffeth & Ann his wife for and in consideration of the sum of five Shillings to them in hand well and truly paid they said Alexr. Wells Senr. the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledege and themselves therewith fully Satisfied and paid hath given granted and Aliend enfeoffed & confirmed and by these presents do give grant alien Enfeoff & confirm unto the said Alexr. Wells Senar all that tract or parcel of Land lying in Ohio county formerly Youghiogeni County and called Augusta by the original pattent on a small branch of hermons Creek a branch of Ohio and by the original patent called a small branch of hardbargains creek a branch of ohio adjoining to the Land of herman Greathouse in the cove granted to Alexr. Wells by the commonwealth of virginia by pattent bearin date the 27th day of march of 1780 Who by deed dated the 6th day of may 1793 conveyed the same to the sd. William Griffith & Ann his wife

beginning at a black oak standing on the side of a hill about thirty poles from the end of a small pond

thence north eighty degrees west one hundred and eighty six poles to a black oak standing on a hill

North ten degrees east one hundred & Seventy three poles to a Sassafras and sugartree on the foot of hill

south eighty degrees east one hundred and eighty Six poles to a Spanish oak standing near the top of hill and

thence south ten degrees west one hundred and seventy three poles to the beginning

containing about two hundred acres of Land be the same more or Less together with all and Singular the profits Comodities priviledges advantages and appurtainances to the same belonging or in any wise of right of appurtaining to have and to hold the said tract and parcel of Land and premises to him the sd. Alex Wells senr. to the only proper use and behoof of him the sd. Alexr wells senr forever in Witness whereof Sd. William Griffith and ann his wife hath hereunto Set their hands and affixed his Seals the day and year first above written.

A Copy from the orginial Indenture Which was acknoledged in Court by William Griffith Part theirto and ordred to be Recorded and at the Same Time a didmus was ordred to Isue to Take the Prevy Examination of Ann Griffith wife of the Said William Consarning hir Right of dower and to be directed to William Sutherland and Richard Wells Esquires which Relinquishment as aforesaid was accordinglty Taken on the 12th of august 1796 by the Said Sutherland & Wells

1) The tract of land being transferred between William Griffiths and Alexander Wells was adjoining land of Herman Greathouse, who was not noted as deceased in this deed.

2) The thread relating that Herman Greathouse was not noted as deceased from this record has been woven through the following historical records to create a Greathouse Cord which has triangulated the death of Herman Greathouse as occurring between Jul and Sep 1796:
