1806 - Monongalia County Court, To Jacob Smith Aug 1805, Dec 27th, serving a warrant on Enoch Greathouse, $.63, 21 cents each for summoning 13 witnesses, taking him to jail .10 a mile, guarding and keeping 24 hrs is $1, furnishing a horse to ride 24 cents, 4 guards/24hrs is .84 Total $6.19.

1806, Dec 8 - Monongalia County Court, Enoch Greathouse jailed 16 days at $.34 a day is $5.35 and fuel $1.44.

1807 - Monongalia County Court, Enoch Greathouse's orphaned dau when he left the settlement, left her with Neal Douglass, Enoch's mother took the girl and court was asked to return her, Neal Douglass saying the mother did not use her well.

1807 - Monongalia County Court, "We the subscribers send a complaint concerning an orphan child, the daughter of Enoch Greathouse, which he left with Neal Douglass for him to raise it and after he went out of the settlement, his Mother came and took it away which appearing evident to us that she doth not use the child well. We beg you to order the child to be bound to Neal Douglass and his wife or some other place where the child may be well used, 10 Jan 1807, Joseph Forman, Neil Douglass and Richard Douglass.

1809, Apr 1 - Monongalia County Court. By virtue of a Court Order dated Jan 1807, Mary Greathouse (6 years old on 1 Jun 1809) was bound to Neal Douglass (until age 18) to learn the art of spinning, netting and sewing. Signed by Overseer of the Poor John Willits and Neill Douglass in the presence of Rachel Forman and Mary Forman.

1809, Aug 8 - Land Entry: Harman Greathouse withdrew claim for 50 acres of land

Margin Notes: withdrawn Aug 8th 1809.

1809, Sep 28 - Monongalia Superior Court. Michael Floyd, Nathan Matheny Jr., Elizabeth Taylor and Elizabeth Floyd Jr. were summoned to answer the complaint of Harman Greathouse in a plea of Trespass damages $1000. The summons was served on Michael and Nathan, but not on Taylor and Elizabeth Floyd for want of time. Taylor and Elizabeth Floyd were summoned a second time on 17 Jan 1710. Greathouse complained that the defendants broke into his house and stole from his plantation the following items: 9 sheep, 5 wheels, 1 reel, 1 big wheel, 2 pots, 1 ten gallon kettle, 1 dutch oven, 2 buckets, 1 coffee pot, 1 sugar pot, 1 tin pan, 1 canister, 1 funnel, 1 ladle, 1 flesh fork, 1 melting ladle, pot trammel, shovel, 2 broad hoes, a grubbing hoe, 1 ax, 1 hay fork, 1 garden hoe, rat trap, hammer, gauge, sifter, double tree, 4 skeins of woolen yarn, 1 churn and 1 cog all valued at $500. January 1811 term, dismissed for want of security for costs.

1809 - Monongalia County Court, Harmin Greathouse signed letter requesting a new road from Mt Pleasants Crossroads thru Roaring Creek Gap with way to Maryland line opposite Round Glade at Pine Swamps intention to have a road from the Pine Swamps to the Crab Orchard, crossing Cheat River, then to Morgantown, Aligany Co to have a road to meet this road.

"We the petitioners beg Your attention at this time, Your Worship well knows that the Pine Swamps has lain unsettled as yet and is only a cage for every kind of vermin which is very injurious to the neighboring settlements around instead of being settled and having a number of the best farms in the county in it. We request Your Honors to grant a review of a road from Mount Pleasant Crossroads to go through Roaring Creek Gap and in the nighest way with the most practical ground to the Maryland Line opposite the Round Glade at the Pine Swamps. The intention of the road is to have a road from the Pine Swamps on to the Crab Orchard and crossing Cheat River at Butler's Mill, then to Peter Meredith's, then to James Cobwin/Corbin's and then to Morgantown. Col. John Lynn that is Clerk of Aligany (sic) County has promised to have an order obtained for a road to meet it at the line," April 1810. Signed by:

1814 - Monongalia Chancery Court, Elizabeth Floyd, widow of Michael Floyd, Michael left state and took up with another woman, Elizabeth Graves Floyd was wealthy, husband Michael swore she was not wealthy, got drunk, sex with a Negro, said he bought land with his own money, he paid Elizabeth Taylor for keeping house for him, his wife Elizabeth Graves went off with Robert Doutry and put Harman Greathouse in possession of the land; court found Michael Floyd guilty.

Joseph Richardson married a Susan Greathouse in MD about 1810. Susan Richardson, age 75, born about 1775 in MD, was listed in the household of her daughter, Prudence Williams of Marshall County, VA in the 1850 Census. This couple had most of their children in MD before moving to Monongalia County, VA. Joseph and Susan Richardson had a daughter named Abigail Sarah Richardson, born about 1817. She married Samuel Hartley of Marshall County, VA in 1839. Another daughter was Prudence Richardson, born about 1812 who married John Williams about 1835 in Marshall County, VA and raised a family there. Abigail was the 2nd great-grandmother of Gary Workman.
