Frederick County Chronology

Frederick County was founded from Orange on 15 Dec 1738, but was not fully organized and detached from Orange until 1743. On 1 May 1754, Frederick gained from Augusta, but lost to the creation of Hampshire County, VA (later became WV). Frederick lost to the creation of Berkeley (VA, later became WV) and Dunmore (later renamed Shenandoah) on 15 May 1772. On 8 Mar 1836, Frederick lost to creation of Clarke, then lost to the creation of Warren on 9 Mar 1836.
