1814, Dec 6 - TYLER created by Virginia from OHIO. Records created prior to 1863 were in Virginia. (Robinson, 88; Va. Acts 1814-1815, ch. 40, sec. 1/pp. 87-89)

1820, May 20 - Marriage: James Greathouse and Sarah Hartley

James Greathouse married Sarah Hartley in Tyler County, VA on 25 May 1820.

1820, Aug 7 – Census: Tyler, VA

James Greathouse household.
1) James Greathouse, age 26-45 [born 1775-1794].
2) female, age 16-26 [born 1794-1804].
3) male, age under 10 [born 1810-1820].

Footnotes:

1) James Greathouse probably moved to Fulton County, IL, between 1820 and 1830, where a James Gratehous was named on the census of said county in 1830.

2) In the chancery suit brought against the estate of Harman Greathouse deceased, of Belmont County, OH, by Israel Moore vs Enoch Greathouse et al., in 1834, among the children and heirs at law named, were: "James Greathouse, of lawful age and residing in IL". A James Greathouse was named on the 1830 census of Fulton County, IL.

1820, Dec 1 - Ohio River and its islands, previously unassigned to particular counties, were declared to be part of the adjacent Virginia counties, including TYLER [not mapped]. For pre-1863 maps see Virginia. (Va. Acts 1819-1820, ch. 74, sec. 1/p. 66)

1846, Jan 10 - TYLER lost to creation of WETZEL. For pre-1863 maps see Virginia. (Va. Acts 1845-1846, ch. 65, sec. 1/pp. 51-54)

1851, Mar 29 - TYLER lost to creation of PLEASANTS. For pre-1863 maps see Virginia. (Va. Acts 1850-1851, ch. 27, sec. 1/pp. 25-26)

1863, Jun 20 - TYLER separated from Virginia and became a county in the state of West Virginia. (Swindler, 10:363)

1868, Mar 4 - TYLER gained small area from WETZEL to accommodate local landowners [not mapped]. (W. Va. Acts 1868, 6th sess., ch. 159, sec. 1/p. 129)
