Greathouse or associated ancestor records found in the county: Jackson County was created by Virginia from Kanawha, Mason and Wood County on 1 Mar 1831. Prior to that date, many of these individuals were residents of those counties or in the adjacent county of Lewis.
1833, Jun 22 - Deposition for Revolutionary Pension: Samuel Tanner [ Transcription ] On 22 Jun 1833, Samuel Tanner gave a detailed account of his military service during the Revolutionary War in a deposition he gave before Thomas Boggs, Justice of the Peace, Jackson County, VA for the purpose of obtaining his Revolutionary War pension. In his deposition, he described his militia company's march, as they left Rockbridge County, VA about Apr 1777, destined for Fort Randolph at Point Pleasant, Kanawha County, VA, present day Mason County, VA. His company arrived at Point Pleasant in about Aug 1777.
